Property Maintenance apprenticeships

Gain an all-round understanding of property maintenance.

Many people in the construction industry need to gain an understanding of multiple trades. This is particularly true for those who are working for smaller firms (and who might need to take a more hands-on approach to projects), and those working on domestic jobs.

For anyone who wants to pursue a career in maintenance and repair, having a good grounding across a number of disciplines is also a great way to develop their all-round construction knowledge. Undertaking a property maintenance apprenticeship can also open the door to further training in specialist areas.

Sign up with ACE, and we’ll aim to progress you on to advanced courses and into employment as soon as you are ready. Our training centre is based in Kidlington, Oxfordshire.

Joe's story

Joe is a Level 2 Apprentice in Property Maintenance with the University Partnerships Programme. Joe has always had an interest in DIY but spent many years as a security guard, including seven years at the universities in security before becoming a Maintenance Assistant. His career change happened after COVID when Joe decided he wanted to pursue his passion and now having a young family this seemed like the perfect time. His Level 3 was not a prerequisite for his position but definitely advantageous for many reasons.  In addition, his employers are well known for investing in their team and promoting personal development, so gaining a recognised qualification was the obvious next step for Joe and he joined ACE in January 2023.

The completely hands on learning aspect, basically learning on the job. You are physically doing the job day in and day out and practise makes permanent! You definitely benefit from working alongside others. It is great peer to peer learning where you can bounce ideas and talk through challenges.

They have a programme which provides the perfect balance between practical learning and theory. The workshops mirror a workplace environment where you have to meet high standards, and tutors will teach you and monitor you giving continuous feedback to help you advance.

Don’t be afraid to practise and tinker!  Look at how things work – start with basics and then you can look to progress into a professional recognised qualification which will give you credibility. It feels amazing to have turned a hobby into a career.

I really enjoyed building a cupboard from scratch. Each step from the frame to the door was really enjoyable as it combined learning with creating a practical product that would be utilised.

To continuously add value in my role and grow my skill set.
